Re: older cat will not eat
EGC is not something that came up last year when the ringworm was diagnosed, nor did any kind of allergy or dietary intolerance. As I said before, she had patchy fur loss and crustiness around the ears at that time, but not now. The ringworm culture came back positive then, so no other condition was...

Re: older cat will not eat
I did call the dermatologist this morning and he has instructed me to take her off of the Simplicef for 48 hours and if the diarrhea stops, give her another dose on a full stomach. If it comes back, he'll put her on something else. Obviously, if it doesn't go away at all even after 48 hours, he'll p...

Re: older cat will not eat
Here I am with another question. This discussion has certainly come along way from help with an older cat who won't eat! :) Lily's diarrhea has returned, if you technically consider one very soft BM a day diarrhea. I think I mentioned in one of my earlier long posts that all her life she has had sho...

Re: older cat will not eat
Getting better with the drops, but I have a question about their content inasmuch as one of the components is a cortosteroid. In 2008 when the allergies first arose in conjunction with the ringworm, her former vet gave her a steroid injection, which proved to be extremely detrimental. It caused her ...

Re: older cat will not eat
Back from the dermatologist visit. After reviewing Lily's history, food intake, etc. his assessment is that her allergies are environmental. He cleaned her ears and prescribed Conofite Baytril Dex ear drops and Simplicef for an infection he found on places on her neck where she has been scratching a...

Re: older cat will not eat
Interesting info about the Claritin. I knew it was not a cure of course but was told that occasional use was OK to temporarily calm the itching. I never gave it to her on a regular basis because I didn't like the effect it had on her. Anyway, You're right for sure - something is not getting detected...

Re: older cat will not eat
She scratches her chin and neck some, but nowhere near as much as she digs inside her ears. The other main symptoms are lots of head-shaking and ear-flicking, and buildup of dark debris. Her ears are the obvious source of most of her itchiness. When I mentioned being doped up, I meant in the future,...

Re: older cat will not eat
Just an update - I spoke with the animal dermatologist and, while he answered some of my questions, he of course still wants me to bring her back in to see him. He wants to first rule out whether or not the ringworm has returned. He's the doctor, not me, but I just don't think that's the problem. Wh...

Re: older cat will not eat
Re the esophagitis, Lily really does not have any of these symptoms that you mention but I will ask the vet about the possibility. Re the teeth, I believe oral x-rays were taken at her last cleaning but, again, I'll check. Re the food, I realize I've offered her too many foods but when you're desper...

Re: older cat will not eat
Traci, Thanks for your response. First, I neglected to mention in my original post that her teeth and mouth have checked out OK. She had a thorough cleaning less than a year ago and her vet checks her mouth almost every time I take her in. Esophagitis hasn't been mentioned. What is that? Through her...
