CRF food question

Hi Our cat Nola who is a 17 year old female DSH was diagnosed as beginning CRF about a year and a half ago. Her blood work has actually improved a little since then. Her current food consists of Purina NF (dry), Hills KD (dry & canned), and IVD Modified (canned). She recently has stopped liking ...

Re: Chicken liver and CRF

Thanks for the fast reply. Nola's appetite and water consumption is good, along with her output. She’s currently on Hill’s K/D and IVD modified Formula. We have to alternate or else she gets tired of it  . Now, I understand about the anemia. Sorry Nola, no more liver treats. We’ve been monitori...

Chicken liver and CRF

Our 16 year old girl Nola is in the early stages of CRF and is slightly anemic. I've read in a few places that giving her some cooked chicken liver is a good way to get some iron in her. My concern is it seems to be quite high in phosphorus which isn't so good for CRF. Any opinions would be greatly ...

Re: Update on Nola’s Surprise Blood Test Results

Well, Nola just had another blood test and things are looking better. Her creatinine is down from 3.3 to 2.6, BUN is 42 down from 52 so things seem to be better in the kidney department. However, her ALT is greater than 2500 and her AST is 2139. Our vet feels this is due to the biopsy that was done....

Re: Update on Nola’s Surprise Blood Test Results

Hi I had a couple of questions on Nola's drugs. She's currently taking Amoxicillian (100 mg twice a day) and I was wondering if this would make her seem a little groggy. Also, she just started Amlodipine (1/4 tablet once a day). Is there any accurate way to cut this pill into 1/4's? They're so small...

Re: Update on Nola’s Surprise Blood Test Results

Once in a while we get to win one! The mass on Nola’s lung turns not to be in her lung at all. After doing the ultrasound, the doctors got a much better view and apparently its part of the gall bladder which is poking through a small hole in her diaphragm. They did an aspiration and the lab said it ...

Update on Nola’s Surprise Blood Test Results

Well, we got back from Tuft’s last night and all I can say is, when Nola does it, she does it big. Here’s the list she has a heart mummer, anemia, high blood pressure, failing kidneys and liver and to top it off a small mass on one lung. All this on a cat that's showing no symptoms of being sick!!. ...

Surprising Blood Test Results

We just got back a blood test on our cat Nola, (16 year old female DSH). Much to our surprise, the results are terrible. SGPT is 480 IU/L; SGOT is 494 IU/L; CK 1059 IU/L; Creatinine is 3.3 mg/dl; just to name a few. The scary thing about this is we just had her blood work done in January and these v...

Re: Help with 2 unusual symptoms

Hi Traci I just received the results and the Doctor said everything was fine. The only item that was a little high is ALT(SGPT) which was 127 IU/L. He said to have it checked again in about 6 months. As far as thyroid goes, she had hyperthyroidism about 4 years ago and we went for the radio active i...
