I'm so happy! I went to PetCo today to get some kitty milk and food. There was a kitty adoption going on, and I started talking to the pet rescuer who was there. They are going to "fund" me to see their vet and do a preliminary checkup on our kitty!!! YAAAAAY!!! I will keep you posted. Sh...

Are they sharing a litter box? If so I would get another one and see if that helps. Your cat may not be "finishing" the job correctly because he doesn't like to use a box that isn't messy from himself.

Talk to your local rescue organizations. I know ours takes sick and pregnant cats no matter what before healthy cats. They will have a vet evaluate it and if it is "just" malnourished. Depending on the age there could be some complications from the malnourishment that they can better take ...
