I was able to monitor the birth. My husband I are were there with her the entire time. The kitten actually came out like that.

Thanks everyone! We love her. I forgot what having a kitten was all about. It's been 3 years since we've had one this young in the house and uh, walking by the bed is no longer safe. Her favorite past-time seems to be charging out at our feet from under the dust ruffle.
