Re: Cat with cough she "caught" from other cat?
I should have been more clear, it is antifungal drugs that are specific for treating many forums of fungal disease, and no, the antibiotics she's been on would not target a fungal infection. Antibiotics could be used as a secondary treatment IF there was a secondary problem going on, like a bacteri...

Re: Cat with cough she "caught" from other cat?
Don't let her eat the dead leaves :? Of course, any of these things could leave residue in the esophagus or stomach and cause irritation. Believe me, I try! Every time we come into the house I search the floor for them, LOL. Licking lips after an episode is almost always due to a vomiting or regurg...

First of all, I can't tell you how thrilled I am to hear Molly is now on the hypoallergenic diet and the acne seems to have resolved. Woo-hoo!! As for the rest, you have to remember that she is 12-years old and her immune system may be alittle suppressed due to her age. Stress also can exacerbate t...

Cat with cough she "caught" from other cat?
Our 12 year old spayed indoor cat Molly was having serious problems with acne/an infected chin a few months ago - see post here - http://www.cathelp-online.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9346&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 . She's been on Hills z/d since I last posted and her chin has comp...

Re: Cat acne, infections on chin
Having said that, you could start Molly on the hypoallergenic diet NOW, and not even give the prednisolone at all, depending on the severity of the lesions. Only problem with this is you may not see results immediately but rather, in a few weeks. In my opinion, it's worth a try to get her on the ne...

Re: Cat acne, infections on chin
Thanks, Traci. I'm waiting for a call back from the vet to discuss the oral steroids and hypoallergenic diet. I've been reading about the potential issues with more than short term use of the injected methylprednisolone acetate (which is what I keep seeing referenced in articles about EGC) so since ...

Re: Cat acne, infections on chin
Thanks, Phoebe's human :) Molly is 12 years old. She's just... so miserable, mostly emotionally rather than physically. Physically, as long as she doesn't have a raging infection, I think she's only experiencing mild discomfort at worst. But emotionally she's a wreck. She's always been kind of shy, ...

Re: Cat acne, infections on chin
Update - The new vet called to say that the culture didn't show anything but staph, which she says should have responded to all of the three antibiotics Molly was on (for a total of 12 weeks, I think.) She says the thing to try now is an injection of (I forget the name,) but I think it's some kind o...

ANY fish, or canned cat food fish varieties fed in excess, can cause pansteatitis, otherwise known as yellow fat disease. Most fish contains high levels of unsaturated fatty acids and/or insufficient amounts of vit E. Most fish also are vit K and thiamine deficient as well...canned tuna is high in ...

Re: Cat acne, infections on chin
I have to agree that giving cats a liquid medicine can be quite the challenge. I had five cats on liquid and I'm not sure they got what the needed as it oozed out a lot! I don't know if the thickness was a problem, but when we got pills things got a bit easier. It's amazing how cats react different...
