Update. Mr. Fish improved noticabley the morning after I posted, he started using his foreleg well and seemed to be on the mend. Recently though, he has started limping again, and I suspect the infection is returning, he has a visit with the vet as of tomorrow to re-evaluate the situation and possib...

Re: peeing outside the litter box
Agreed, my cat only started urinating outside of the litterbox to attract my attention...as far as I know, and when he did, he found a white blanket to show me the blood in his urine.
Or so I think, but it worked, and I got him diagnosed for FUS in the nick of time!

My kitty is back again...sigh...
Well, Mr. Fish has once again had a problem that requires him to visit the vet. I assume all responsibility as I continued to let him frequent the yard... Yep, AFTER he lost a leg to a car motor, and AFTER he developed FUS.... I still wanted him to be able to go outside and have a good time. Unfortu...

I am calling the vet back for a check-up today, as I just went outside with the kitty and noticed him frequently digging up dirt, straining for a bit, and then walking slightly away and repeating the process. He's urinating some amount, but I can tell he's not impressed with the amount an so is tryi...

Re: FUS/FLUTD Foods?
Thanks so much for the reply, my kitty is home and happy, and was prescribed a diet of wet Hill's CD for the time being...which he LOVES! He has always liked wet food as an occasional treat, but due to a nasty bout of dental problems in a previous kitty I had, I was reluctant to put any of my cats o...

Re: FUS/FLUTD Foods?
Hopefully, I have made up a proper list of questions about my kitty's condition and the subsequent treatment. Though by no means complete, a few of the questions include: Wet Vs. Dry food Diet. (FLUTD prescrip, of course.) Cranberry Extract based Ph Modifiers. Distilled Water. Constant flow, filtere...

FUS/FLUTD Foods?
With the recent scares about various canned foods, this is the worst timing in history to have my kitty diagnosed with FUS/FLUTD! Everything I have read is encouraging the use of wet foods, which seem to be the primary bunch tainted in the recent recalls. I know one of my local vets is still stockin...

Re: Conflicting advise...blood in urine.
Ok...the news from the Vet was...I dunno exactly. He said my kitty had, "a lot of blood in his urinary tract". He said it was not "blocked" per say, but an ultrasound did show a clot that needed to be passed. He also mentioned that Mr. Fish's urine was "highly-concentrated&q...

I'm not sure who it was I talked to, so I can't really raise any heck with them...unless I find out. But the good thing is I got him into the ER clinic around 9AM. I waited until 9 to get into see my vet, only to find out she is on vacation and the clinic I normally go to is only open for 4 hours a ...

The problem is that I don't have a 24 line to my normal vet, they don't open for another 2 hours. I suppose if the ER says it's OK to wait, I'll do that. I just am kind of freaked out by the entry on the Emergencies page that says a urinary blockage can kill a male cat in minutes to hours. This site...
