Re: Help:Senior Cat Question---Emergency Situation?
Thanks, Traci and KB. I've been monitering my kitty, too, for food and water intake, litterbox, her weight (unfortunately, only by sight/feel since I don't have a scale in the house), and our vet told me to check her gums for changes from pink to white. Doing the sub-q helps with weight (it's easier...

Re: Help:Senior Cat Question---Emergency Situation?
The emergency vet did bloodwork but didn't test the thyroid, so I'm not sure what led him to the diagnosis (& I may have just been burnt out from the ordeal and at 4am just misheard him saying she only probably has hyperthyroidism). The regular vet tested the thyroid and said it's functioning fi...

Re: Help:Senior Cat Question---Emergency Situation?
It turned out that Mokey does not have hyperthyroidism, but so far the kidney condition and hypertension have been wonderfully manageable. Right now she is on Norvasc for the hypertension and powder meds with senior food to help her process potassium and protein. We give her sub-q fluids ever...

Re: Help:Senior Cat Question---Emergency Situation?
Thanks to both Traci and Tambrey for your replies. She's at the regular vet's now, awaiting the fax from the emergency place. This vet I'm seeing now is new, but so wonderful with Mokey and helpful with the situation and all my questions. What she outlined is basically what both of you mentioned/rec...

Re: Help:Senior Cat Question---Emergency Situation?
Thanks again for the solid advice. We went in early on Sunday and she got bloodwork and a couple other tests done. She's got renal failure, hypertension, hyperthyroidism (I think that's what the last is called), and detached retinas. So, basically, the works. I'm taking her to the regular vet tomorr...

Help:Senior Cat Question---Emergency Situation?
My cat is approximately 16 years, and for the past several days has been acting strangely---sleeping TOO much, case of the wobblies/messed-up eqilibrium, this latter due to dilated pupils which I am now afraid is going to leave her blind. Took her to the emergency vet today and he stated she was deh...
