Thanks Traci. I'll try that. I assumed it's the adult food, but maybe it's the kitten food giving him gas??
Marty, I'm using the brand of food the vet carries, but if he's sensitive to an ingredient, I don't think I'll ever figure out what it is.

Re: Kitten transition diet and gas
Hi Traci. I think the vet is concerned about weight gain, since he's just been neutered. I was a bit concerned that it was too soon to start him on adult food. It's dry food, so he's not gulping, but he does target the new food to eat first. I'm feeding him about 40-45g twice a day (morning and nigh...

Kitten transition diet and gas
At my vet's suggestion, we're transitioning our 7-month-old neutered kitten from kitten food to food for neutered young males. I've been mixing both foods, but he snarfs up the adult food and then picks at the kitten food when the other is gone. He loves the new food but something's giving him frequ...

Re: the full story on catnip?
Hi Traci. We're not actually giving him the leaves -- the catnip is buried inside a soft toy. Since he's not eating it, does the once a week rule still apply?

the full story on catnip?
Have any studies ever been done on exactly what catnip does to cats? I've always been wary of catnip toys for any of my cats because it makes them so manic and crazy. My current kitten is no exception. He's a normal playful 6-month-old, and when I give him a catnip toy, he ratchets up about 5 notche...

Re: Shy kitten
Thanks, Traci. I didn't want him to feel abandoned, but I'll give him more time to settle in.
He's six months old and I have his vet record -- full shots, neutering, etc.

Shy kitten
Hi all. I brought home a six-month old Turkish Angora kitten yesterday morning, and I realise that of all the cats I've owned over the years, I haven't had a kitten since I was a child. He's a shy critter who was a bit bullied by his more assertive brothers, and now he's the only pet in a much quiet...

Re: Health issues? Turkish Angora and Bengal
I'm afraid I can't point to evidence about the strays interbreeding -- just the experience of the vet who's been involved with the colonies of feral cats around our region. These are the ones producing most of the kittens that end up needing homes (after being rounded up by the RSPCA). There seems t...

Re: Health issues? Turkish Angora and Bengal
This the first time in my life I'm thinking about NOT adopting a cat from a shelter. Every other cat I've ever had has been from this route. There are a couple of considerations that are making us consider a breeder: 1. According to our vet, the pool of moggies in this area has been interbreeding an...

Health issues? Turkish Angora and Bengal
Hi. Two months on after losing out beloved moggie to cardiomyopathy, we're thinking about getting a new cat and considering - for the first time - an interesting pedigree breed for a pet (not for showing or breeding). We have reputable breeders near us for Turkish Angoras (which are not yet acknowle...
