Abscess on back paw
I've taken in another foster cat. This one with an abscess on his back paw. It's about twice the size of a regular paw. (looks like a cartoon paw). They lanced it, cleaned it, and put in a drain. He will be on amoxicillin for 10 days. Any advice on keeping him quiet? He was also a stray, and is quit...

Re: Scared new adopted kitty
It sounds like she is not afraid when you are lying down, but is afraid when you are standing or bending over. Imagine how big you look from her perspective. Maybe try lying down on a blanket or rug at her level. See if that makes her feel more at ease. Also, I've heard that if you make sure...

Re: Cat open mouth
I read that they do that so they can smell something better. Don't know if that's true or an old wive's tale.

Re: Down's Syndrome
I teach special education, and have studied Down's syndrome. It's a genetic defect where the person has 3 copies of the 21st chromosome instead of the two that most people have. They have replicated it in mice chromosomes, but that didn't cause any facial deformities. I'll put in a quote from the st...

Re: 2 new cats
The male kitty was a foster. He went to the shelter and was adopted. I only had him because he was injured in the eye and head and it had gotten very infected. Yes, my new ones have seen the vet. She said they are fine, except for mild ear mites. She gave me some medication for that, and an ear wash...

2 new cats
I picked up two new (rescue) cats yesterday. Named Serenity and Mae. They hid for a while, then snuck around sniffing everything. I was just hanging out with them this evening when the crazies hit. Apparently Serenity is what they wish she was. She was running around, skidding around corners, peelin...

Honey
I had her put to sleep on the 13th. She was down to 5 1/2 pounds (from 13), and her kidneys had failed. She was with me for 16 years. I'm just beginning to be able to talk about it.

Re: First foster cat
Yes, he is fully recovered. He goes in next week to be neutered. I hope that will not be a big setback. Yes, he was completely feral. They only caught him because he was severely injured and it was infected. He is good with people now, but you are right. He is not so good with other cats. It's funny...
