Pix of Sam!
I posted in the "Pet Food Recall" thread about Sam, my parents' flame-point Siamese who was suspected of having fallen victim to tainted cat food. He became very, very ill and nearly died due to kidney and liver failure. The jury is actually still out on the cause now--he had a severe blad...

Re: Poisonous plants... Any DETAILS?
A birthday bouquet given to me by a delightful student wound up costing us $1,000. Why? Lilies. *sigh* We had NO idea lilies were toxic to cats. We knew philodendron and poinsettias were, but not lilies. It nearly killed Mija...she wound up with acute kidney failure and was on IVs for a week. That's...

Re: ALL POSTS RE: PET FOOD RECALL GO HERE IN THIS THREAD
That must have been an adorable picture of your Sheltie puppy attacking Sam's paw, with Sam being so big! But they must have ended up being friends later. Other way around. :) I guess my description was a little confusing there...it's a picture of Sam as an 8-week-old kitten attacking Angel the she...

Re: ALL POSTS RE: PET FOOD RECALL GO HERE IN THIS THREAD
Sorry I haven't posted an update lately. I was on spring break last week(perk of teaching), and had to go back to work this week. And now my own infant son is sick, so we're just a household of joy at the moment. Anyway, great news! Sam is home and on the road to recovery. Apparently the biggest pro...

Latest news is Sam's numbers keep dropping and he might go home today. :) The biggest concern is whether or not the kidney damage is permanent; if so, then his numbers will start to climb again when they take him off the IVs. They told us the same thing when Mija was poisoned by the lilies, and thou...

Re: ALL POSTS RE: PET FOOD RECALL GO HERE IN THIS THREAD
Well, the news is better this morning. Sam was "bright and alert" when the vets first saw him, so that's a good sign. His electrolyte and kidney function numbers keep going down, though still high, so again...a good sign. I'll keep you posted!

Thank you all for your well wishes and sympathies. Having the vet print up a new receipt is an excellent thought. It never occurred to me; my cats are on Science Diet foods you can buy in pet stores, so I had it in my mind that my parents were out of luck. But m/d has to be bought in the vet's offic...

Re: ALL POSTS RE: PET FOOD RECALL GO HERE IN THIS THREAD
Howdy all. I haven't been around in ages (my cats have been very healthy), but unfortunately it looks like my parents' wonderful flame point Siamese, Sam, has become a victim of the poisoned cat food. He's in the vet hospital now on IVs and antibiotics, but he's in end stage renal failure and has se...

UGH...how to get Mija to quit overgrooming herself
Mija is our 5yro formerly stray tuxedo kitty. She is in great health, but unfortunately had a bout with fleas last season. She had an allergic reaction to the bites and started overgrooming her belly to deal with the itchiness and irritation. We took her to the vet, started her on Advantage, and gav...

Re: Why is Mija losing hair??
An update: This is why she needs to be seen by a vet: I'm not one. Hubby brought her in today (following the phone call to the vet that went exactly as I predicted) and the head vet had a look. Apparently his trained eye was able to find some redness and irritation common to an allergic reacti...
