Re: Newman's Own Cat Food?

Well since it's easy enough for each of us to find articles that support our differing views, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this.

but I don't believe it should be the primary ingredient in cat foods geared towards healthy cats. It is a primary ingredient, not the primary ingredient. OK, I'll rephrase this one...I don't believe rice/grains should be a primary (ie, one of the top three) ingredient of cat food that is geared tow...

I definitely agree that rice is great for sensitive stomach issues, but I don't believe it should be the primary ingredient in cat foods geared towards healthy cats. Since they are carnivores and not omnivores, healthy cats don't need the high amount of plant-derived proteins and carbohydrates that ...

Re: Newman's Own Cat Food?

In looking at Newman's ingredient list (on their website), it doesn't seem to be very good food - it has a lot of grains in it which cats don't need in their diet. Wellness, Eagle Pack, and Felidae are some top-notch foods. Eagle Pack has oats in it, and Felidae has rice, but for both of these foods...

Hi Fiyero- There are an assortment of things you can try in order to train your kitty to scratch appropriately. First, offer him a variety of scratching materials in various locations throughout the house. You said you have a scratching post and that's great, but most kitties like to have more than ...

Re: is my kitten on the road to obesity???

Jane- Do you "free feed" your kitties (ie, leave food out for them 24/7)? If so, try scheduled feedings, giving them a measured quantity of food out twice a day for approximatley 20 minutes each time; after the 20 minutes, pick up the bowls. If your cats are used to free-feeding, it may ta...

Hi LinZ- Yes, the toe is actually amputed up to the first joint in the declaw procedure. However, this is not far enough up the toe to include the toe pad. The best comparison in human terms is cutting off the finger or toe to the first knuckle; the digit is basically intact but the part where the n...

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to start a heated debate; I was only trying to share some facts about, and my thoughts on the subject. I thought LinZ should know what is involved with the declaw procedure before making her decision, as well as letting her know there are other options out there that may w...

Hi again Linz- This is just my opinion, but I would strongly discourage you from declawing Kip (to put it bluntly, I am very anti-declawing). I'm not sure if you are aware what is involved in the procedure, but when cats are declawed, all of the toes are amputated up to the first knuckle! Can you im...

LinZ- We've been facing a similar situation with trying to integrate a 3 year old female into our crowd of 5 cats- 4 boys, 1 girl. 4 are 1 1/2 years old, 1 is 9 years old. All are spayed or neutered (as appropriate, or course!). The first few times we introduced them, everyone did great, but after a...
