LOL, mine do that too, or they run away. Most of my dogs I can do their glands myself, except for one, I get the vet to do her.

Re: Tears of Blood!!

Whew, as it turn out, all it was was some irritation from the eye infection that she said was still there a bit. She did not seem too concerned but she checked his tear production and also suggest that a tiny growth on his eyelid should be removed so that it does not cause any eye irritation. So hom...

Tears of Blood!!

My Cocker Spaniel has recently had puss in his eyes and was on Terramyasin (sp) which he completed a couple of days ago. His eyes seemed to have cleaned up but I noticed that one was still quite red on the bottom under the skin. He is due back to the vet for a re-check tomorrow, but, last night whil...

Re: First aid for paw pad abrasions?

You can now get no-sting liquid bandage now. I have used it on minor abrasions and had good luck with it.

Update on my AIHA dog

I just wanted to give you a progress report on my pom Spud who has Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. Yesterday was day four of his treatment and he went back to the vet for another blood test. His original red cell count was 9% and now (as of yesterday) it's up to 24%. This is great news and means he is ...

Re: My dog has autoimmune hemolytic anaemia

Thanks that was interesting reading, as were some of the links provided too. This seems like a pretty depressing problem, something that my poor dog is going to have to deal with for years, if he lives that long. :(

Re: My dog has autoimmune hemolytic anaemia

I'm not sure I totally understand what the connection may be to the Albon (sulfa based drugs), but I don't recall him ever acting tired in any way prior to that when he took them for the Coccidia. There were a few times after he got over the Coccidia that I can recall him just sitting in the back ya...

Actually, I asked that quetion to my vet if I still needed to be giving him the pills for that since this is an immune system problem and she feels genetic as well, but she told me to continue with that treatment as well. I may be wrong, but my thinking is that it's just to be on the safe side? He i...

The last batch of blood work has come in and the vet confirms that it's Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. The good part is that she said his bone marrow is producing good solid red blood cells. So I guess now it's just a matter of getting his wild immune system under control. He is brighter this aft...

Re: My dog has autoimmune hemolytic anaemia

Oh dear, this is so "greek" to me now. I had never even heard of this until yesterday. I hope I will know more after the lab sends back the rest of the blood work and hopefully it will be before they close today. Come Monday if there is no improvment (providing he makes it to Monday) there...
