Re: How old is too old for surgery????
Thanks to davet and Tambrey for your responses! I've talked to my vet since I posted a couple of days ago, and what he had to say was pretty much what davet said. He is going to do some bloodwork first to make sure liver and kidneys look normal. Mona is scheduled for her spay this coming Friday (3-1...

Re: Am I crazy?
susanb, I'm so very deeply sorry to read about your loss. As the others who have replied have already stated, you did the right thing even though the guilt and pain that follow the loss of a special and beloved kitty can be unbearable. What you are going through now is very normal, and all of us who...

How old is too old for surgery????
I recently adopted an adult cat that is estimated to be between 13 and 18 years old. No one know her past medical history, but my vet said that if she was at the shelter for 5 months and never went into heat then she is probably spayed. Well, guess what! Now that she is in a calm and stable home she...

Re: Weird aggression in cat. overreacting?
I agree that a vet visit is definitely in order! There could be an underlaying medical (such as hormonal or neurological) cause for your cat's unsocialable and unpredictible behavior. Blood tests and a complete exam should hopefully reveal the cause. I hope your kitty can be treated. I too would fin...

Multiple cat introductions
I know it's generally recommended that new cat introductions be gradual but most of the posts that I've found regarding introductions seem to assume that one or two new cats are meeting for the first time one or two resident cats. I would love to hear any comments regarding introducing one new cat (...

Re: Skin problem
Bless you for feeding and caring for this kitty! It sounds to me like the kitty may have ticks. I have seen engorged ticks that meet your description. Traci is right, it would be best to have that kitty examined by a vet, I hope you can get him in soon, he needs help. Please post a follow-up and let...

Re: Feral Release After Surgery Concern ???
Bless you for your work with ferals!!! Have you seen and been able to observe the two previous spays since you released them? Have you seen any problems? I can understand your fear, but I don't think I've ever heard of this being a problem. I don't claim to be an expert, and there are no doubt excep...

RE: I hope I've done the right thing!!!
Thanks to those who offered their comments and suggestions! I took the kitty to the vet for a checkup. Negative for FIV and FeLV (yayy!!). His only real problem is a case of fleas (surprise, surprise!!), for which he has been treated. The vet checked for a microchip, none found. I dropped off his pi...

I hope I've done the right thing!!!
I was driving through a local park and spotted a cat on a picnic table hunkered down (it's cold and damp and rainy here today). He let me approach him and was quite friendly. I gave him some food (I carry cat food and rescue supplies in my car) and he appeared to be extremely hungry. His coat didn't...
