Tips For Choosing Pet
Health Insurance:
- Make sure whether or not the
insurance company requires "network" veterinarians or if you can choose
your own.
- Make sure you understand the
insurance plan you are contemplating and whether or not additional
fees apply for certain conditions or incidents.
- Make sure you completely understand
"certain conditions apply" where applicable and whether or not these conditions
are stated in your policy.
- Some insurance companies provide
Standard, Elite, or Premier Plans. Please make sure you understand the
varying differences and varying coverages where each applies.
- Contact your own local health
insurance agent to see if a smaller company may be licensed to sell pet
insurance in your state.
- Make sure you understand conditions
that require health certificates, conditions regarding pre-existing conditions,
and conditions regarding treatment and diagnosis issues relating to your
policy.
- When you are contemplating a
pet health insurance plan, discuss the plan with your vet so that you have
a better understanding of whether or not he participates, and issues regarding
applicable conditions as they apply. Remember that some insurance
companies charge additional fees, or exclude certain treatments,
and some may include higher fees for geriatric patients or pre-existing
conditions.
- Never commit yourself to an
insurance plan until you are completely comfortable that it suits your
needs and that of your kitty's health issues. Carefully review the
plan/policy and keep up-to-date on it's possible changes.
